Race For Life 2008

I had an email from Vicki Acors one of my brides from 2007 asking me to sponsor her in The Race For Life. Vicki lost her grandpa Denis, and Simon, her husband, lost his mum Christine, who was not much older than myself very suddenly at the end of last year, also to cancer. I will of course, be sponsoring Vicki and my neighbour Cass and my own niece Vicki who are all running.

I have photographed this event for the past 3 years. It is a very emotional day for everyone and very humbling. If you know someone who is taking part, sponsor them.

Bernie and Peter

I get asked to photograph all types of events, and when Bernie rang and asked me to cover her and Peter’s 25th Wedding Anniversary bash at Higham Park, I of course said, YES. With an excess of 200 guests I knew this was going to be fun.

My brief was to photograph everyone at the party, families, couples or groups of people, even Elvis was coming! The evening arrived and I was surrounded by a bevy of beauties and that was just the fellas! Everyone loved having their photographs taken as you can see from the images below.

Hullaballoo played a session and the dance floor was packed, then Elvis entered the building, it was in fact a relative of Peter’s. He was excellent and had all of us old-timers singing along to “The Wonder of You!”.

The party went on into the early hours of Sunday morning, I left at around eleven, but I know that a great time was had by all.

I have the most fantastic job and people’s generosity always amazes me. I was invited to stay on and either stay at Higham Park, or I would be given a lift back home. Not only that, but when I delivered Peter and Bernie’s disk to their home I was asked to stay for a huge roast dinner, so thanks Bernie. It doesn’t end there, not only did Bernie and Peter pay me my fee, they also gave me a tip for doing such a great job.

Tara and Chris

My wedding season kicked off with the marriage of Tara and Chris, when they booked me to photograph their wedding in August 2007, Tara told me she had a dream it would snow on her wedding day- spooky - as I was to discover.

I met Tara at The Abode in Canterbury the week before her wedding. This was going to be the first time I had worked at this venue since it’s major refurbishment. It has been sympathetically refurbished, very modern, but a lot lighter, which is good for me, but they have also kept a lot of the original features...

We had the chance to have a look at the bridal suite, which can only be described as “fabulous”. That’s its name, and it certainly lives up to it. Outside is pretty awesome, with the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral in the distance.

On the day I arrived at Tara’s mum’s home to find a very emotional Tara, but she was ably supported by her two close friends Sharon and Tracey (I kid you not, that was their names). I took some shots of the preparation and pics with her parents, and then left to meet Chris and James at Wellington House. As I drove towards Canterbury, I could hardly believe my eyes- it actually started snowing! During the day we had snow, sleet and bright sunshine, makes life interesting!

The wedding ceremony went by in an instant, as they all seem to do. It was then back to The Abode for the wedding breakfast. As the sun shone on our arrival we went over to St. John’s gardens to take some shots of Tara and Chris. Below are a couple of my favourites from the day. Since returning from their honeymoon in India Tara has had surgery on her hand, so hope all goes well Tara!

Viv and Bu

Early Saturday morning, and I mean early - 6.00 am, what a beautiful day. As the morning went on and it was time for me to leave for Mount Ephraim, the black storm clouds started gathering on the horizon, here we go again!

I met Viv, her mum Carole and sister Alex (I didn’t mention what was going on outside), on the stairs inside the house at Mount Ephraim we all watched while Rachael from Contemporary Flowers weaved her magic with some greenery and roses on the sweeping staircase.

The ceremony was over, Viv and Bu were married and we opened the doors to go outside, and it was bucketing down, the doors were shut, and drinks and canapés were served. Less than 30 minutes later we all moved outside for photographs bathed in warm sunshine.

With Magnolias and Camellias in full bloom Viv, Bu and I made our way to the bridge by the lake. Anyone who is familiar with Mount Ephraim will know how beautiful this is. We got some great shots in the grounds and just made it back to the house before the heavens opened again. Job done!
